Paracycling is part of the U.S. Paralympic program governed by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) internationally (Handcycling is only one of four disciplines within Paracycling).


2016 Recreational Group Rides

Group rides will be Tuesday evenings in the summer from 6:30 - 8:30 pm until the weather makes it unpleasant to continue. Meeting spots are subject to change (due to a variety of reasons - this list will be updated as will the Events on the Facebook page). This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (must be coordinated in advance - $5 fee per ride for bike rentals). All rides are out-and-back, meaning we'll end at the same place we start.
 
Local rides feature traditional as well as adaptive cycles (including handcycles). Friends and family are encouraged to join us. All riders that are part of our group must wear a helmet and have a current waiver on file with us before riding (signed by parent/guardian if under 18).
 

May 24 - Goose Lake parking lot. Ride toward/to Albrecht Fields.
May 31 - Point Woronzof parking lot. Ride toward/to Kincaid Park.
June 7 - Westchester Lagoon parking lot. Ride toward/to Point Woronzof
June 14 - Kincaid Park Chalet. Ride to Jewel Lake, to Dimond, to Sand Lake and back to Kincaid Chalet.
June 21 - Westchester Lagoon parking lot. Ride toward/to Goose Lake.
June 28 - Goose Lake parking lot. Ride toward/to Albrecht Fields.
July 5 - Point Woronzof parking lot. Ride toward/to Kincaid Park.
July 12 - Westchester Lagoon parking lot. Ride toward/to Point Woronzof
July 19 - ***CHANGE IN START/FINISH to Bartlett High School (pool/gym side). Out and back to/toward Eagle River weigh station.
July 26 - Westchester Lagoon parking lot. Ride toward/to Goose Lake.
Aug 2 - Goose Lake parking lot. Ride toward/to Albrecht Fields.
Aug 9 - Point Woronzof parking lot. Ride toward/to Kincaid Park.

 


2016 Paracycling Race Program

New for 2016, Challenge Alaska will sponsor a road racing program. Interested persons should contact Jeff at (907) 344-7270 This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Race team members will need to join the Arctic Bicycle Club's Road Racing Division ($20 online) as we will participate in their upcoming races this summer.


This team is the result of feedback received from Alaskan cyclists who wanted to create opportunities to compete and develop racing skills without leaving Alaska. If you know of anyone that may be interested in joining the team or volunteering to help the team please contact Jeff using the information in the preceding paragraph.
