Alaskans will compete in Colorado

Sadler's Home Furnishings is backing Challenge Alaska's efforts to make exciting changes for the 25 Anniversary Edition of the race. This summer will be the planning reconnaissance mission for the best race ever in 2009. In lieu of there being no competitive event in Alaska this summer, Challenge Alaska pulled together with several local supporters and business to assure that Alaskan handcyclists would still have an opportunity to train and race this summer.

Four Alaskans will represent "TEAM ALASKA" with help from Chenega Management, Triwest Health Care, Coca Cola of Alaska, Geneva Woods, Anchorage Fracture and Orthopedic Clinic, and Mike Brown. Larry Coutermarsh, Mark Hufford, Mike O'Neill, and Rick Gilliland will be competing at the Rocky Mountain Omnium this June in Denver, CO. This event is the team selection event for athletes that will compete in the Beijing Paralympics. Check out the whole story....http://www.ktuu.com/Global/story.asp?s=8179479

Rick Gilliland has already carved out a niche for the team, having raced the first two events in the U.S. Handcycling Series in Redlands, CA and Rome, GA, respectively. Rick and his compadres look forward to making a name for Alaska on the roads of the Rocky Mountains.
